Warticon (podophyllotoxin)
What is Warticon?
Warticon is a medicine that is used to treat genital warts and is intended for external use only. It contains the active ingredient podophyllotoxin which prevents cell growth and kills the virus that causes the warts to appear. The warts usually disappear a few weeks after the start of treatment.
What is Warticon used for?
This medicine is used to treat genital warts. Genital warts are small, cauliflower-shaped lumps found on the penis or around the vagina, labia and anus. Genital warts are an STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease). The virus that causes the warts is contagious and can be passed on through sexual contact.
How to use Warticon
Warticon is available as a cream and cutaneous solution. Warticon should be applied to clean, dry skin and directly to the warts. Take care to avoid getting the solution on healthy skin. You can use vaseline or zinc ointment to protect the skin around the warts or prevent skin irritation.
The cream can be applied to the warts using your fingertip. The cutaneous solution should be applied using the applicator. Make sure to follow the instructions on the package leaflet. Wash your hands immediately after use. Avoid contact with the eyes.
Warning: Genital warts are highly contagious. To avoid infecting your partner you should not have unprotected sex if you are using Warticon and your genital warts have not yet cleared.
Dosage
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, Warticon should be applied as follows:
- Apply a small amount of the cream or solution directly to the warts twice daily for three days. Wait four days before you start a new three-day treatment session.
Treatment can be repeated if necessary. If the warts have not cleared up after four three-day treatment sessions, stop using the product and consult your doctor.
Warticon is not suitable for children under the age of 18. Read the package leaflet before use.
