What is Verrumal?

Verrumal is a cutaneous liquid used to remove warts. The solution contains two active ingredients:

• fluorouracil, which slows down the growth of warts, and
• salicylic acid, a medicine that softens the epidermis.

What is Verrumal used for?

Verrumal is used to remove warts. Warts are caused by viruses in the skin (e.g. HPV, the human papilloma virus). The infected cells cause skin growths, little bumps shaped like a cauliflower. Warts are seen most commonly on the hands and feet, but can also appear on other parts of the body. Verrumal is an effective and fast-acting remedy for warts. The liquid penetrates deep into the affected skin and removes it over a period of time. If successful, the new skin that grows underneath will be healthy. In most cases, the warts take up to six weeks to disappear.
 

How to use Verrumal

Verrumal cutaneous liquid should be applied to warts only. Do not apply to normal healthy areas of skin. To protect the healthy skin, put petroleum gel (Vaseline) or another greasy ointment on skin around each wart. Allow the liquid to dry for five minutes before putting on clothes. Verrumal forms a thin layer over the wart, which should be removed every time you apply a new layer. Do not use this medicine on large areas of the skin: the area treated should not exceed 25 square cm (5 cm x 5 cm of skin). Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the liquid and avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and nose.
 

Dosage

Verrumal can be ordered online from our partner pharmacies. Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose in adults and children is:

• a small amount dabbed onto the wart two or three times daily until wart is gone (do not use for more than six weeks in succession).

Keep treating the affected skin for one week after the warts have disappeared to prevent the warts from recurring. This medicine is not suitable for small children and infants, unless a doctor advises otherwise. Read the package leaflet before use.
 

 

Side effects

Verrumal may cause side effects. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine:

• Skin irritation at the application site;
• Flaking of the skin;
• Headache;
• Dry or irritated eyes.

When not to use Verrumal

Verrumal is not suitable for everyone and should not be used if:

• You are allergic to fluorouracil, salicylic acid or any other ingredient in this medicine;
• You are being treated or have recently been treated with an antiviral medicine;
• You have a decreased kidney function.
