What is Veregen (Catephen)?
Veregen (Catephen) is a medicine that is made from the extract of green tea leaves. This extract, which is derived from the leaves of a plant called Camellia sinensis, slows down cell growth and is used in the treatment of genital warts (condylomata acuminata). Genital warts are mainly found around the anus or on the genitals. Veregen (Catephen) is available as a cream.
What is Veregen (Catephen) used for?
Veregen (Catephen) cream is used as a medicine for the topical treatment of warts on genital and anal skin. Genital warts are skin growths that are caused by a virus infection and look like flesh-coloured bumps with a cauliflower-like surface. Genital warts are transmitted through sexual contact.
How to use Veregen (Catephen)
Veregen (Catephen) should be applied three times a day, in the morning, afternoon and evening. Gently dab a small amount of the cream onto the warts with your fingers. Make sure all the warts are completely covered. Wash your hands immediately after applying the cream to prevent further infection. Use this medicine as indicated on the package leaflet. If in doubt, contact a doctor or pharmacist for more information on the use of Veregen (Catephen).
Dosage
The maximum recommended dose is 0.5 cm of cream from a 250 mg tube, three times a day. Over-use can cause skin reactions to worsen. If you have applied too much cream, wash the extra away with mild soap and water. Do not apply extra cream to make up for a missed dose.
Side effects
Most side effects of Veregen (Catephen) are the result of local irritation to the application site. Common side effects in the initial phase of treatment include redness, itching, irritation, pain and swelling. These side effects generally become more tolerable and resolve after the first few weeks. Consult a doctor if the skin reactions affect your everyday activities or if blistering occurs.
