What is Condyline?

Condyline cutaneous solution is an effective treatment for genital warts. It contains the active ingredient podophyllotoxin, which prevents cell growth and kills the virus that causes the warts to appear. In about four to six weeks, all the wart cells will have died.
 

What is Condyline used for?

Condyline is prescribed in the treatment of genital warts: small, cauliflower-shaped lumps found on the penis or around the vagina, labia and anus. These skin growths are caused by a contagious virus that is passed on from one person to another through unprotected sex or genital contact. Genital warts are an STD, also known as a venereal disease.
 

How to use Condyline

Condyline should be applied to clean, dry skin. You can use vaseline or zinc ointment to protect the skin around the warts or prevent skin irritation. To apply the medicine, dip the end of one of the plastic applicator sticks into the bottle, apply the solution onto the warts and let it dry. Wash your hands after application and throw away the plastic applicator stick. Do not apply the solution to large areas and avoid contact with the eyes.
 

Dosage

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, Condyline should be used in:

 

• three twice-daily treatments sessions. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated every week. If the warts have not cleared up in five weeks, you should consult your doctor.

Condyline is not suitable for use in children. Read the package leaflet before use.
 

 

Side effects

Condyline can cause side effects, such as:

• Burning, tingling sensation after application. This side effect generally disappears after a while;
• Pain, redness and ulceration in the area of use after the second day. This is a sign the medicine is working. If these side effects do not clear up in a few days, you should consult your doctor.

When not to use Condyline

Condyline is not suitable for everyone and should not be used if:

• you are allergic to podophyllotoxin or any other ingredient in this medicine;
• you are taking medication that contains podophyllin;
• you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

This product is not known to interact with other medicines. However, you should always tell the doctor what medicines you are currently taking.
 

 

Pregnancy/driving ability/alcohol

The active ingredient in this medicine is harmful to (unborn) babies. Do not use Condyline if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. If necessary, you can consult your doctor for a different treatment.

Condyline does not interact with alcohol or affect your ability to drive safely.
